Robert Newton still scares the life out of me in this. His entrance and the murder of Nancy are fantastic bits of acting. Funny to read in David Lean's memoir that he was really a 'kindly' man who used to play with John Howard Davies in between takes :)

Funny in this version, in this scene at least, Dodger is rough and sinister, not charming as he's often depicted.

John Howard Davies who played Oliver- and went on to produce and direct TV comedies such as Monty Python, the Good Life and Mr bean ,died aged 72 on 21/8/11. A great actor and director.
