6 out of 10 daily necessities get more expensive

Prices of six out of ten daily necessities have risen following July's torrential downpours, the Korea Consumer Agency said. Huge areas of farmland were flooded during the longer than usual rains and there is now a shortage in supply, pushing prices through the roof, with the price of cabbage in particular shooting up 66 percent in just one month. According to the Consumer Agency on Wednesday, 64 out of 102 everyday items saw a price increase in July. It is the latest in a long line of price increases that has seen your average consumer much worse off in 2011.

Samsung's 10.1 tab back on the shelves in Europe
-----------------------------------------------------
Samsung Electronics Co. has gained the upper hand in its patent dispute with Apple Inc. after a German court decided to lift a continent-wide sales ban on the Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer, industry sources said. Apple had filed an injunction last week to prevent the sale of the tablet PC, claiming that Samsung had violated its patents. After the German court overturned the ban, the Galaxy Tab can now be sold everywhere on the continent except Germany and the Netherlands. Apple believes that Samsung's Galaxy series of smartphones and tablet PCs are copies of their iPad and iPhone.

European powers meeting gives hope not results
------------------------------------------------------
French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel revealed detailed plans for closer eurozone integration, including more regular summits, deficit brakes and financial transaction taxes. Sceptics pointed out that the measures were all talk, with nothing concrete in place as of yet, but the leaders sent a clear message that bailouts themselves would not be enough to solve sovereign debt. They also pledged to share an "absolute determination" to defend the single euro currency, whilst putting financial transaction taxation forward for September.

** Key phrases:
1. All talk : 말만 많고 결론이 나지 않는 일
- Implying that someone is not backing up what they say with actions

Eg. His speech at the company office party promised more time off and longer lunch hours just like the last one. All the workers went home knowing that it was all talk.

2. A bailout: (심각한 재정 위기에 처한 기업・국가 등에 대한) 긴급 구제
- financial help given to a person or a company that is in difficulty. Can also mean rescue someone from a troublesome position.

Eg. We bailed out Chris after he owed money to the mob
