1950 film, now in the Public Domain, in which a dancing squirrel (wearing a kilt!) becomes the mysterious benefactor of a down-and-out family of vaudeville performers. Jimmy Durante stars as the father of the performing family, and belts out several tunes at the piano including a rollicking "Jingle Bells."
A feel-good B-movie that's plenty of fun if you're in the right mood. You can see the whole film online (or download it) free at http://www.archive.org/details/GreatRupert
My father had a pet squirrel back in the 50's that he named Rupert (because of this movie). He rescued the squirrel as a baby, and raised it, and it came when it was called, and used to hang out on his shoulder all the time. They were best friends. He eventually sold it to another kid for a dollar, whose family ate him. The 50's were a weird time.

Our PBS has this on last night on their weekend classics - last time I saw this I had to be 5 or 6. Looked it up online and found a colorized version for a couple bucks on DVD.
