Playing around with doing some 3D animation in Povray. The blinking red balls are actually debugging information from a simple beat detector; you can see at the start that the detector has a hard time, but after the kick-drum comes in the song, the beat detector gets fairly accurate. The software is all custom stuff done in Perl 5 and includes the spectrum analysis for the wall, a distributed rendering system which all together added up to about 28 GHZ of total processing power, and the beat detector.

Actually what I did was create a system in perl for doing exactly that: spectral analysis and frame syncing at an arbitrary rate (Audio::Analyzer on CPAN).
My Perl script used PovRay to do what I can't do in perl: 3d animation.
