@Thriced2286 Well, if you look at what happened to Khrushchev in real life, he was overthrown in an internal power struggle when military hardliners were dissatisfied with his not "standing up to" the US, and replaced by a hardliner, Brezhnev. This game is set during said coup with the fictional Volgin as one of Brezhnev's partisans. Khrushchev is on the verge of falling, if he tried to take action against his military, he would be overthrown (as he in fact was).

usually i feel mgs games set the bar in terms of storylines, however, this one appears a little cheesy so far

@Thriced2286 Khruschev couldn't do anything about Volgin; Attacking his own countrymen would remove him from power, and he would be seen as a traitor to Russia. Also, the second time Snake was inserted into Russia, FOX used what's called an SR-71 Blackbird. They fly into the stratosphere of the earth and are undetectable.
