  • I'm happy I ran across this. I'm ready to assemble a 251 with the same grind, 236 degrees and .410 lift. now I have a little confedence it's about what I hoped.

mine is bumped to 9:1 compression and will also have headers be Langdon Stove bolt, tripple side draft 240Z carb. cam reground by earl edgerton. Going in a 42 Plymouth 2 door. I'm curoius what your compression is.

It would be quite a show to put them side by side!

  • @47firestone

My compression was right around 10.0-1. My only thought with this motor is that the cam is really too much for what the motors are. This one actually blew up on one of its first long drives because the crankshaft gave out. Really soft castings on the cranks, and with my compression and the cam, it actually out of rounded the rod journals. As long as you keep your rpms down, it shouldnt be too big of an issue. When the motor cam on the cam, hold on! It was around 205 hp.

  • i have a 40 ply. coupe w/55 230 six and offy manifold like yours. my carbs are 38 dodge strombergs. my exhaust are cast iron headers by a guy named phillips from the seattle area. whats your camshaft? sounds a little too radical for me. my coupe has been in the shed for six years will take it into the garage this spring and wake it up.

  • @mschiffel1

The cam was a grind from Delta Cams in Tacoma WA. .480 lift, 236 duration, 107 lobe angle. Idle around 900.

Next time im going for less lift and a broader lobe angle. Its a regrind

  • only one carb has a fuel line?

  • @mschiffel1

Theres a block off plate under the other. Hadnt began to jet em down yet. Its only running on the front carb.

  • yeah!

  • Heh-heh-heh!

Where did you find that Offenhauser? The return of the flat sixes!

These are fun enough. I can just imagine how addictive the flathead V8's were.

  • Now there's something you don't see everyday! Good on ya!

  • Holy Offenhauser, Batman!

Music, SWEET music! In a few weeks I'll own a '49 Chrysler and as much as I am in love with that sweet V8 sound, this sound is just as addictive. I played this LOUD over monitor speakers (sound studio) and although the quality is low it made my day 8)
