For the people of Congleton, Cheshire...
Cheshire East Council have just declared their INSANE intentions to charge cafes OUTRAGEOUS sums of money...SIMPLY for the right to put MORE THAN 4 SEATS outside their premises for customers! Their reasoning is that these seats are "obstructions" on "public highways"! (NOT paved over streets!)
PROTEST against this bureaucratic idiocy! Right to the Congleton Chronicle and Cheshire East Council to let them know how you FEEL!

1. I walk through the Town Centre virtually every day. I KNOW how busy it gets and it's not THAT busy around Bread and Basil that people can't simply walk AROUND the seating outside.
2. IMO, Cost Cutters have more stuff outside their shop than cafes do. So why is it just catering establishments being targeted?
3. Places like Costa (FRANCHISES) can EASILY afford to pay. Local businesses have it harder, trying to compete. They deserve support, not victimization.

Ok...a couple of points.
1. You must not spend too much time in Congleton town centre. The town centre gets very busy and it does get crowded around the Bread and Basil Area.
2. Over the last few months the owner of Bread and Basil has started to creep further and further out into the main street with his table and chairs causing more and more of an obstruction.
3. All of the other cafes in town pay the licence and do not complain, what makes him so different?
