All Eyes On Sharon Tate

A short bio on 1960's starlet Sharon Tate made at the beginning of her career. My best youtube mate Euterpe sent this to me. She and I are both big David Hemmings fans - if you like him, you'll love the glimpses of him on the town with Sharon in Swinging London. Ah, the 60's. For some of us, they never quite ended. Manson scholars will also find this worth a look.

It is ironic (?) that 'Last Train to Clarksville' is prominant in this 1966 film short. The Bobby Boyce & Tommy Hart song was by released by the Monkeys in mid-1966 shortly before the Monkees TV show aired with its made-for-TV version of the Beatles (the Fab Four). Very early in 1966 Charles Manson was one of the 437 hopefulls who auditioned to be a member of the Monkees (derisively called the 'pre-Fab Four).'

It is "Last Train to Clarksville" guitar and melody mostly. Curious, as this video was made in 1996 at MGM, but the Monkeys record (released in August 1966 in US and Jan 1967 in Britain) was a Columbia-Colgems product. Must have been some borrowing of riffs by the studio folks making this film's background track added to accompany when Sharon Tate is supposedly dancing with David Hemmings at an English club.

Worst comb-over ever at :34. Great little docu -- missed the first half as it played lastnight on TCM. A very good comedic actress, much like Stella Stevens (ironically, both did Matt Helm flicks with Dean Martin). I always think of that Jim Carroll song: It's too late / To fall in love with Sharon Tate / But it's too soon / To ask me for the words I want written on my tomb.

For someone like me who wasn't born when this girl was alive and who's main reference of her is the circumstances surrounding her death, it's impossible to disassociate her from the heinous crime that ended her existence. Having said that, I must admit that it is actually refreshing to see what a beautiful, charming girl she seemed to be and God only knows what timeless icon she would have become had she lived.
