Yeah, I know it's long, but it's pretty detailed too. I wanted to actually show you how I do it. You will witness me spontaneously write a song that actually took an hour to compose and record. This is only a demo and not meant to be taken as a fully mixed song. Hopefully by the end of this video you will have learned how I make the backing tracks and songs. Usually projects are more complicated that this, in that they include more guitars, tighter rhythms, more thought-out phrases and ideas, are longer, and better quality overall.

Here I will list the equipment used to make this video:

Guitar: Ibanez RG 350 DX (everything stock as of this video)

DAW (digital audio workstation): Reaper (free - better than Audacity)

EZdrummer plugin: (ON SALE AS OF 10/07/2011)

  • Hey, I'm just learning working with Reaper as well, really cool software and easy to handle. Do you know how large the time difference you're talking about at 14:20 is? some milliseconds? Do you know whether Reaper fixed this in later versions? thanks for the vid anyway! Check out some of my recordings if you want to =)

  • @Syntaxon Yeah, just a few ms. They have fixed this a lot, but I still move the sound backwards (cuz my guitars are slightly ahead of the beat) 2-4ms, but it's not as noticeable if you don't.

  • how can i make my guitar sound pass the Pod Farm and then get recorded by Reaper?

  • @arebanez I select the Send 1 inside Reaper. That's the audio input from the interface.

  • Thank you man, great tutorial, it really help me a lot.

  • @chapelofdemons I'm glad it did. :) You're welcome.
