For fifty years, the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence has been scanning the galaxy for a message from an alien civilisation. So far to no avail, but a recent breakthrough suggests they may one day succeed.
Horizon joins the planet hunters who've discovered a new world called Gliese 581 c. It is the most Earth-like planet yet found around another star and may have habitats capable of supporting life. NASA too hopes to find fifty more Earth-like planets by the end of the decade, all of which dramatically increases the chance that alien life has begun elsewhere in the galaxy.

  • If there is no other life out there, I'll give you my address and you can come kill me.. When I was in grade 3 I knew there was other life forms out there?

  • dude, just put a sock in it... =/

  • @ZeroHumans And, what puts you above us all, if you don't mind me asking?! You some kind of ET spawn? LMFAO!!

  • @buckeyesports1 humans are so stupid. It's more like life around 10% of stars and about 50,000 advanced space societies in the galaxy. If they knew Earth is just a reject planet and treated by civilized societies like an Alcatraz, humans are quarantined and there's enforcers of that only 80 light years away. Humans are too stupid to figure this out.

  • this is stupid, do aliens have transister radios, you people would be better of spending the money on humans that are doing it hard, and when we have our system running like it should they will come to earth and pay there respects,

  • What makes us think we're advanced, though? We're not even a level 1 society.

  • @Devestato72 What the hell? intelligence isn't defined by physiological capability. Does a dog know it is going to die? No, we do though. We are aware that we are conscious, and we are aware that we know we are conscious. We're magnificently intelligent and complex. It would be a mistake to call ourselves, without doubt, the most intelligent beings in the universe and beyond, but really, how could you compare us to dogs? we're apes.

  • @buckeyesports1 of course humans are going to say weare the smartest, we dont wanna admit how dumb we are. and are we smart by who's standards, ours? a dog can pickup a scent from miles away.......that supercedes what any "intelligent" human can do.

  • @jared8455 100,000 is actually pretty small when you consider the fact that there are around 400 billion stars in our galaxy. In order for my estimates to be correct .000025% of stars in our galaxy must contain intelligent life, or one in every 4 million stars. Plus life is not as precious as we once thought as we have found amino acids, the building blocks for life, on asteroids. We may not even be alone in our own solar system as some of the moons of Jupiter may contain life

  • @buckeyesports1 i think that is a huge number, one hundred thousand. i would love to be a believer of that but i dont think its so. im sure there are other civilizations in our own galaxy but not that many. life does not just happen. i would love to be proven wrong though.
