A green wave is rolling in the transport industry thanks to high fuel prices. With diesel getting more and more expensive, high-efficiency, environmentally sound engines are getting more and more attractive despite their expense. And manufacturers are scrambling to cater to the trend.

At this years IAA, International Automobile Exhibition for utility vehicles in Hanover, the MAN company is showing its first hybrid truck; Daimler is presenting eleven vehicles with alternative engines, including three world premières from Mercedes-Benz. Some vehicles are already on the market. Ten Daimler experimental 12-ton trucks with combined electro-diesel motors are already on the road in central London. Their fuel savings are as much as 15 percent. But does expensive technology save money in everyday use? Arne Hasberg checks out the latest high-tech trucks and asks transport companies if and when they might buy the new models.

  • 1:30 pretty stereotype scene, asian people try to steal western technology xD

  • i did that once but i pooped on accident!i did that once but i pooped on accident!

  • They're probably Chinese, what do you think? They'll get their slaves and they'll do work it out overnight, but quick and dirty style.

  • its funny how they dont give you any miles per gallon on flat ground, or km per liter, they just say how much gas it saves.

  • oh lol, how smart can they be? copying complex hybrid machines just by looking and take some pictures of them, get real!

  • Hybrid is the way forward. It's good to see they're trying it on trucks and yachts as well.

  • Rutger Hauer on the left at 1:50

  • yes I know, thats the whole damn problem with this globalization world of free access & giving away technology or products to asian companies, they will copy it overnight, then try to commercialize on it the next day !

  • but they can't match the quality!

  • Did you see the Asians at 1:31 stealing the Germans' ideas. They will take photographs of the innovations and go make knockoffs of them for half the price.
