Minneapolis' Lowry Bridge was imploded on 21 June 2009. For those of us that were there it was an experience of the finest kind.
About the Lowry Bridge:
The bridge was built in 1905 and was substantially renovated in 1958. It was closed in April 2008 amid safety concerns about one of its piers, which had shifted out of place.
It took 198 pounds of explosives (320 charges) to blow the thing into 30 pieces. It was known for its open-slat driving deck that hummed with the vibration of passing traffic and gave motorists a clear view of the river below. It was closed in April 2008, when a supporting pier shifted then deemed structurally unsafe.
Goodbye, Lowry Bridge.
Shock wave shook your camera! Way to go! Great video.
