As part of a greater movement with no real center or name, the Common Ground Youth Coalition is interviewing leading young change-makers to create a snapshot of what young people are doing for their generation nationally, and globally. The goal is to showcase young people from all walks of life who have been successful at making a change in the world, in any sector - public, private, political, religious, social, cultural, non-profit, etc. We hope that our collective work can demonstrate how youth can solve today's issues, work across traditional boundaries, and inspire others to do the same.
Chad Bullock is often referred to as one of the leading anti-tobacco activists in the nation. Chad grew a passion for anti-tobacco activism in the 9th grade after losing a loved one to tobacco. He successfully petitioned a major tobacco company to end a multimillion-dollar campaign targeting kids. He also fought to make the popular Durham Bulls Athletic Park one of the first 100% tobacco-free minor league baseball stadiums. Chad became the first and only non-celebrity to win a Teen Choice Award from FOX in 2008. He won the 2008 Do Something Award and a $100,000 from Do Something to continue his anti-smoking efforts that same year. Chad has trained over 45,000 kids in anti-tobacco activism and is currently the director of an anti-tobacco activism organization called helloCHANGE.
