Why every fireman must wear seatbelts while driving a firetruck. This one did and it saved his life.
A fire truck crashed with a pick-up truck on US-20 at Luckey Rd. around 1 p.m. Friday, February 13th in northern Wood County.
Two air ambulance helicopters were called to the scene. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Toledo area hospitals and are in serious condition.
Witnesses say that the pick-up truck ran a stop sign and drove in front of the fire truck. The fire truck rolled more than once and the pick-up was thrown across the intersection.
The fire Department says the truck is a total loss and places the value at $750,00-$1million dollars.

@570lib I doubted it went end over end also, first that truck wont endo and second, IF it did, the ladder would be gone. Roll over yes, endo, no.

i've read the comments on all the fire truck crash videos that i have watched. and some people are blaming it on the driver's of the fire trucks. what they dont understand is you cant just stop something that weighs inexses of 30 tons and holding anywhere between 500 to 1000 gallons of water.

It is unlikely to flip end over end but it is not unlikely to be coming from a call empty when we are on a fire Scene the water in your tank can actually go pretty quickly and even when on a scene if we dont have a hydrant near by we will have to go fill up the tank multiple times. Then if it is empty when we leave the call we fill back up when we get to the station

I highly doubt that you could flip a fire truck end over end even if you tried. That witness was definitely a little excited.

The person driving it was also not a firefighter. It was a mechanic.

@20cricket09 I have since done research on it and I fully agree with you. They are tanks of trucks. But the thing I don't agree with in the video is the flip end over end. Unless they were coming from a call empty, which is unlikely, it is very unlikely to do that with all that weight of water and equipment. I'm not saying its impossible but I'd have to see it to believe something like that.

@Altarve4107 they weigh 69500 empty...and that thing could roll 10 times and that ladder wont come off...grumman made a strong ass torque box that ladders mounted to

@BoTMSapper. Yea. That's true. We have a 1987 3D apparatus pumper and the tanks are in the side locker. I stand corrected. But we do agree on it doesn't take but a second to put the scba on whether it's a Scott air pack or an MSA.

@Altarve4107 I use to be a firefighter. The BA tanks are not built into every firetrucks seat... They are in a side locker, and still from the time we get there it only takes 30 seconds to have them on your back an as your bout to walk into a burning house, you already have the straps up tight and mask on with someone helping with getting the hose ready.

Oh and there is no way in hell that aerial flipped end over end. Maybe a roll. But unlikely. The apparatus ladder would not still be on the engine. That truck weighs around 100,000 lbs. No way it flipped end over end.

I am a firefighter and it is mandatory upon entering the engine to put on a seatbelt. Its hard to put an air pack on with the seatbelt on because for those of you that don't know, the air pack is built into the seat. But if we can't get it on due to the seat belt, it only takes a few seconds upon arrival on scene to tighten the straps up and go to work. So I agree, every firefighter must put on a seat belt. It may save your life.

i lost my dad and uncle who were both firefighters i was five yrs old at the time and that's also when firefighters rode on the back of the engine do to only enough room upfront for two people they were comming into a curve and another car drove right out in front of them there was no where's for the engine driver to go but right which was an open field with a 4 foot ditch running beside it the truck rolled and trapped my dad and uncle under it they both died instantly please pull over

When my dad was a rookie (when firefighters were still aloud to ride on the back of the truck) an engine and ladder 4 were responding to a house fire. im not sure how they collided, but one firefighter on the back was pinned between the two trucks and killed. it turns out the house fire was just a false alarm. two girls called their neighbor as a prank and told the neighbor (at work) that her house was on fire

@wrestler1010 Sorry about your uncle, but cannot blame lady.
You can't drive your ambulance into the path of a semi not allowing it opportunity to stop. Also, why did the ambulance not go around the stopped woman?
Sounds like she stopped for the ambulance. She was on cell phone ANDoing make up? Nonsense.

A Firefighters while responding to a infant not breathing where killed before they even got to the home; As they crossed two MAJOR bypasses a lady on her phone and doing make-up didn't pay attention to the ambulance coming up behind her leaving the ambulance stuck in the middle of the intersection getting struck by a semi truck on the passenger side.. KILLING MY UNCLE and injurying the driver very badly. I AM NOW A VOL. FIREFIGHTER, and i would like to ask to, please watch out for your firemen!

Sorry for you loss. That is an advantage of posting some of these video'son Youtube. Maybe it will wake people up to see what we deal with when people are not paying attention or even being purposefully stubborn.

How fast was the fire truck going? Holy smokes! To flip "end over end" and roll over, the truck had to be hauling!
flightjunkie250 3 years ago
Don't know how fast the firetruck was going. The speed limit at that section of US 20 is 55. We do know that the driver of the pick up was cited and the firefighter was not. In other words, it was the pick up's fault.
570lib 3 years ago
I talked to a family member of the fireman. The truck did not go "end over end" It did roll though. The witnesses got a little excited.

Also, he was not on an emergency run. He was returning from maintenance.
