We're calling the white kitten "Homeless" because Molly found her abandoned, soaked, and screaming in the pouring rain far away from the barn. When I put her inside my flannel and tee shirts, she stopped crying and pressed close to my tummy. She recovered in about half an hour and ventured out looking for Mom.

So I went to the barn to see if I could find a Mom for her. I found a litter -- Mom was away -- and put Homeless down next to a little amber tabby who was screaming her head off. We're calling that one "Nameless".

I went back a couple of hours later and they were doing fine, but still no Mom. Nameless and Homeless were quite the healthy and yowly kitties, but I remained concerned about their prospects. I was wondering if the whole litter had been abandoned. It happens sometimes.

When I went back again, they had vanished. Mom probably moved them because they had been discovered (or because do-gooders had been dropping off stray kittens). Homeless had been accepted, at any rate, and that was as good as I could hope for.

A couple of days later Angel Face brought Nameless and Homeless down to the house to introduce them. The trouble is that Angel hasn't been pregnant in three months, though she still has plenty of milk. She may have taken over an abandoned litter, or nabbed another cat's kittens. Neither of these is uncommon in a feral colony.

Whichever is the case, these little kitties hit the jackpot, because Angel is a super Mom. Kittens that she raises tend to be strong-willed and long-lived survivors.
