That's his experience. He could have b een the child of divorce, a troubled marriage or domestic violence. He's got a lot of sympathy for dad. Not all dads are so sweet, if you know what I mean. I do love his sense of monotony and squashed dreams, though. He didn't have a momma that had to do everything herself, did he?

This song reminds me of my dad who passed when I was twenty. I'll never forget the morning he dropped me off at college my freshman year. As he stood up to walk out the door he told me to listen to his knees. He said, "I did this to myself so you don't have to."

My Dad was a Cape Breton Coal Miner. Of all the music that I played, he actually related to these tunes!

You cannot write songs with this much heart without experiencing it yourself. Bruce watched his father every morning from his bedroom window. He would watch him under the hood of his old car trying to get it started and then head off to work. No glamour, no praise, no thanks needed. He grew up very blue collar. Some people don't forget where they come from. He's worked his way out of that life and is entitled to the lifestyle he enjoys today. He EARNED it!

@pumpkinpi You're clearly quite a bitter specimen, makes sense really given the nature of the video you're commenting on. If you don't like it, dont listen. But you can damn well respect the man who made it, he's an incredibly talented musician and if that means he made it to greater things then good on him. At least he got off his arse to do it instead of just browsing YouTube leaving negative comments on those who did.
