It's more difficult. Swiss german is considered a variety of German, but it's so "varied" that's it's not mutually intelligilble :)

@prilstrudel Switzerland was founded officially 1848, it separated from Germany 1648, so it's not part of Germany for quite a few centuries^^ So "now" isn't exactly the right word it's independent for quite a while now...

Switzerland is an independent country and has nothing to do with Germany! We don't speak Hochdeutsch, we speak Swissgerman, French, Rumantsch, Italian.
