A few observations:

-The middle school students, grades 1 through 3 (equivalent to American 7-9th grades), do all of the chores and food preparation. They clean the bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, as well as the teachers' office.

-Students are designated to set up station and serve lunch to other students in the hallways. They eat and socialize in classrooms.
The administration dines in a lunch room that is separate from where the students are. Teachers and staff members eat the same food as the students, which typically consist of rice, various panchan (side dishes), and soup. Dining at the school has been satisfactory. However, eating lunch from a cold metal plate-tray is strikingly indicative of that other public system, prison. What adds to that is listening to metal spoons and chopsticks scraping and tapping off of these metal plate-trays throughout the entire lunch break.
But, leaving the room with energized teachers and a child-sized yogurt drink (equivalent to dessert) softens the blow.

- Charades, one word English sentences, and "TASHI HANBON" have been sole methods of communication with these 13-16 year olds. I find myself either laughing or consoling a frustrated student who is failing to communicate with me in Konglish.

- 107 is "most famous" in the entire building for being notoriously worst-behaved and uncontrollable. In my modest opinion, they are one of the more amusing classes to teach.

- Air conditioners are replaced with fans that are installed at two sides of a classroom. In the middle of a lesson, a sweaty and fed up student will do an Air Jordan and pull the chord to crank the fan to full speed.

- I am still unable to figure out which side to face when standing on the floor's toilet.
