Uploaders Note: This documentary is good up until her stance on video games, it seems to me an immature and ignorant disregard for technological change. It's not only completely void of understanding, it is scientifically unfounded. Her views on video games is straight up quackery and I apologize although this doc does bring up some very interesting and important science on the effects and importance of reading. It is a quality documentary with some really great insights.

  • writing has the power to change the world and start revolutions!

  • It's about time we get some video propaganda for the benefits of reading. Interestingly, many of the comments for this video are poorly edited and, therefore, difficult to read or outright unintelligible

  • @jerryhello100

    Lol'd.

    You so clever.

  • highly informative,Good job british scientis lady

  • someone looooooves wuthering heights a lot.... someones very lonely.

  • in future, if we kept downloading things to read thing in the brain.. your brain wont develop new brain cells for reading purpose.. you'd end up being illiterate as the stone age ppl.. heaven forbids. But I am more interested in downloading skills and language. But reading is what made us civilized.

  • @juki0h I don't mean to be that guy but if we look at tends over the past 100 years, In first world western countries mainly but also many other nations, people have been working less and less hours over time and getting paid more and more. Assuming this trend continues I think it is safe to say we won't be to busy for a good long time. Things change though, economies could crash beyond any hope of recovery. But if that happens I doubt any of this would matter.

  • @Tapey01 guess ur right, enjoyment. but maybe we wont have that luxury, as people become more busy, wont have time to read

  • @juki0h Enjoyment, Minecraft is an awesome example. People spend countless hours creating things which could be programed to be made in a fraction of the time and effort. And at the end of the day there is no tangible result. There are ways to automate tasks like sewing yet people still sew. There are thousands of examples of this. Would an auto knowledge implant devise decrease reading, sure, but those of us that enjoy the act of reading would still read. Just lie those that enjoy sewing.

  • @Tapey01 perhaps someday they will. i mean, whats the point of reading if we can just download it into our brains
