Follow up my demo of the Flip camcorder a few months ago, this is the same scene with the new Flip Ultra. The big improvement is the tripod attachment point on the camera. This scene was recorded with the camera on a tripod. The audio narration was added separately.
NOTE ADDED Feb 09: If you like trains, check out my other videos. Most of the train videos are captured with the Flip Ultra Camcorder.

  • Would this camera be good for close-up (macro) recording?

  • A really good question. I didn't know the answer, so I got the camera out and tested it. It is fixed focus and works fine from about 8 inches away from an object. Anything closer than that is out of focus. Keep in mind that the camera here is the first generation flip ultra with 60-mins of recording time. There are newer models available that might have macro capability.

  • are the camcorders durable?

i saw one at the store and it went for about 180.00

but there was a digital camera for 140 10mp and everything.

i dont know which would be better to get.

  • Thanks for the question. Yes, the camcorder is durable. As for which choice to make ... why not try both and keep the one you like?

  • Hi, I'm from the UK lookin for a new camera to replace my Vivitar 8400, will this camcorder record in widescreen? And will it take pictures? Thanks!

  • Hi, thank you for the questions. The short answer on both is no. It records in VGA quality with a 4:3 ratio and it can't take still pictures. The Flip MinoHD (see another comment below) will record in widescreen but I have not tried it out.

  • Thanks, really appreciate your time.

  • nice vid! what did you use to record your audio with?

  • Wow man that video looks really good! I have been looking everywhere for a camcorder to use for my kayak and boating trips. Currently I am using a miniDVD corder and its too much of a hassal to convert the videos just to edit in movie maker then finally post on youtube. Tired of fooling around with the miniDVDs too. Glad I seen your vid of scenery, I am getting one of these tomorrow. I was wondering how well it would work with scenery and this vid answers my question.
