No offense to you, but this program did not and does not make sense at all. Lots of people could have used these decent cars and trucks but now that they have been destroyed the prices of survivng ones have gone up. This means that these people now have to resort to buying pre-smog gas guzzlers from the 70's that are far worse on gas and emissions than any of these "clunkers" ever were.

those guys should be killed. seemed so happy about killing it

The Obummer regime caused a lot of damage to this country and the environment with this program.

the people that dump that shit into a perfectly good running vehicle are the biggest FN' idiots out of them all!!!!

The fact is, this activity is government-subsidized.

Hey man, I totally agree with you on that. I will be much happier when that government loan is repaid. I'm a fan of GM products which is what I have mostly purchased. I believe they have vehicles that will be desirable and I think the quality of them has impoved as well. I currently have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with 197,000mi on it and it runs great. There are some maintenance things that need to get done, but overall, it's a solid car that I have no problem driving cross country.

and their certainly should not be in the car scrapping business.

the government needs to get their ass out of the car business. yes, they helped save GM and chrysler which was important(even though i dont like government involvement). now it should be up to GM and Chrysler to boost their own sales and pay back the loans. they need to convince people to buy their cars on their own.

this is America and everyone still has a choice in this matter. They could sell those vehicles outright to someone, granted they may not get $4500 for their vehicle, but that is still another option for them. No one held a gun to any of the people who cashed in on that government program. If you purchased that jackpot lottery ticket, will you rip it up because 100s of thousand of people paid into it and they can't share it?

the option to destroy a vehicle and get 4,500 for it should not exist. under normal circumstances these cars would be traded in and sold on auction, or perhaps sold on someones front lawn. if someone wishes to destroy their vehicle they should get NOTHING for it. it they were to submit it to insurance, it would be fraud. certainly they should get tax dollars to destroy their car.
this program is the only thing thats retarded. destroying vehicles that still have value, who's idea was this anyways. its stupid. no intelligent government destroys value. its like throwing money right into the dumps. some of these cars are quite nice. older, yes but some are in really good condition. some of them i would love to own. i will never buy a new car, biggest waste of money ever.
