Throughout history, the most harrowing stories of human survival--like that of the Donner Party in the 1840s--have involved people whose only means of staying alive was to cannibalize the deceased around them. On Friday the 13th of October, 1972, just such a story began when a charter plane carrying 45 rugby team members crashed in the remote Andes Mountains. For 72 days, the world thought they were dead. But what 16 survivors endured was far worse than death, driven to what would become headline-making acts of cannibalism in their struggle for life. Now, through the first person, on-camera account of one of the survivors, Nando Parrado, experience the nearly two and half months of heroism and tragedy through the eyes and memories of the man who lived it. His experience will also become a window for viewers into the history of other stories of extreme survival.

  • Who knows until such a situation arises what each of us would do.

  • Good bless Nando Parrado!

  • Saw this on The History Channel today and was nearly in tears. Sheer inspiration is all I can say. Inspiration to not be afraid, and never give up. So cliche I know, but the Nado and Roberto as well as the other survivors proved it. Just INCREDIBLE.....

  • The greatest human survival of all time...I am inspired by Nando's life and the other 15 survivors, everything is possible when God puts you on a test...

  • The most amazing survival story of all time! Nobody can truly comprehend what these men went through.

  • i just saw this on history channel. this documentary inspires me very much.

  • I helped AMS with this documentary. The airplane sounds you hear in this are from me. I helped them find an actual Fairchild aircraft to film in. I supplied them with help for their art department for their 3-D animations and supplied many photos used in the documentary. I was also interviewed and appear in the documentary.

  • you'll never believe me but One of the survivors Roberto Canessa, is pediatric cardiologist and i have 12, my doctor says he must study me cuz i have a accelerated sustance in blood, either way he sayed that i have to make study in my heart. so, Roberto Canessa make to me the study of the heart, it was a honor, he's so friendly :D
