===DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME===
All disc drives contain a laser, many with beams that are invisible to the human eye. Even so, such lasers can still cause permanent damage to your eyes.

  • Now use the laser for a laser engraver :)

  • Good idea, since the laser still works fine.

  • its a matshita.

  • @mmmm2158 I actually had it plugged in beforehand.

  • how can you get shocked by only 12 volts

  • drive lasers can only hurt you if the drive is ON!, not unplugged and OFF

  • nice to some one like me... i would have done the same to that drive, i would have opened it and see each and evey parts of the device and their function before i replace it with a new drive....this is one hell of engineering and super complicated.

i feel less complication would have extended the super drives life...

  • @SuperDave61164 superdrive was optional on that machine.

  • its called a superdrive

  • i had tried this before with my laptop (not mac) but didn't look what inside it.
