You have to be root. For example : addi@ubuntu:~$ sudo -s
[sudo] password for addi: (Your normal password)
root@ubuntu:~# apt-get install sun-java6-jre
and then it will be install.

i have linux 9.04 and am trying to download java6.23 (jre-6u23-linux-i586.bin) it says "E: Couldn't find package jre-6u23-linux-i586.bin" i have the file saved on my desktop. any ideas?

I thought linux would be awesome. But Im having too much trouble. I typed the same commant you did. sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre and it said no package was found? Plz help me.... i dont wnat to have to go back to Windows. (I hate windows)

@alanibanez actually I just gave up on it.. instead, I found that in the software packages source....
What is the command to apt-get the java that you was using?

The command to install java was:
"sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre"
Sorry, YouTube compresses the MP4 files I upload, blurring them. I'm looking for a better video format.
