Hi,
There are lots of different 'mediums' you can mix with acrylic paints. The one I have used for color blending is called a flow medium. It causes the acrylic paint to flow better on the canvas without losing any vibrancy of color.

Yes, you can do this technique on a small section of your painting. Just use less paint portions.
