Having lived in Hastings all of my life, I have seen quite a few things change about the place over the years. One of the saddest of these changes, has to be the steep decline of the once prosperous Kings Rd area in St Leonards.
At one time, Kings Rd was like a mini version of Hastings town centre and it had a good selection of shops, including the likes (ironically) of Woolworths. Since the end of the 1980's however, the area has fallen into steep decline and these day's it mirrors a lot of similar shopping areas in the respect that it is now home to a great deal of charity shops and bookmakers etc.
I recall as a small boy how renowned Kings Rd used to be for its Christmas decorations and lights. My Gran and Grandad would take me in their Austin A40 there to wonder at them and the street always used to feel so alive and vibrant.
So, this year when I heard that there was to be a Christmas street market along Kings Rd, I just HAD to go and see if the old place could come alive again once more...
Instructional work again Tony.
