  • It is not trick. Top level players usually know their opponents openings and playing style. He is probably just thinking about what lines they might get in to and what would be best for him against his oppenent.

  • Such tricks are respectable! Even top world like Kasparov an Karpov used these!

Otherwise tell me why think 6 minute for the first move!!???? and why not think one hour???

  • I think its insanely bad ettiquette. If this is commonplace, I would never play.

I've never played a tournament. Someone please tell me this is not common.

  • 6:02 ............ congratsulations!

  • Just saw this game today.

On your move 36 What happens if you play Rook to h5 threatning Queen to h7 and all sorts of threats with the Knight on g4 (moving to e5 etc) and the Rook winning the Queen on the d file should the black King be forced there by white's play.

Did you see that move during the game? Your Queen to d4 does not seem as strong

  • oh people think before the first move because they are trying to select which opening would be best suitable for that game or if his opponent has surprised him with a new opening choice

  • if he's a grand master he should know opening theory.. or maybe he doesn't believe in opening theory.. only in how he feels in the moment

  • It was just a delay by the brain cells to communicate to the hand!!!

  • it'a just a psichologycal move for make nervous the opponent! Poor tacticism but it does work with someone!

  • Shabalov thinks 6:02 for his first move. Quite unusual.
