  • Those burleys can be interesting, but I've tended to stay away (meh, as you said). And very glad to discover the personal detail about Indian food!

  • @joffrethegiant Did you actually mean that you stay away from Burleys or did you mean VaPers?

  • @jamesejudy3 Away from burleys. Not like the plague, I just don't seek them out.

  • @joffrethegiant

oh. Well, to each his own, I suppose ^_^

  • What exactly is a VaPer? Is that just virginia/perique?

  • @pipeandabook yes, you're right on.

  • I'm pretty much of a VaPer guy myself, but I do like to mix it around a bit. English blends and some burleys (particularly Solani Aged Burley Flake, Edgeworth Ready Rubbed, Wessex Burley Slice and Park-Lane Fireside). You're differentiation of being able to recognize quality irrespective of individual tastes and preferences is some spot-on wisdom. If everyone recognized that, it would cut down on all those unnecessarily petty pipe forum squabbles.

  • Thanks for sharing your review.

  • I'm with you on the burely and English blends. I'm not a fan of straight virginias or VaPers. I'm sure its just my body chemistry, but I never taste the "sweetness" that people refer to. Straight virginia always taste harsh and acrid to me and out of all the different types, virginia tastes the most like cigarettes to me. The one exception to this is Orlik Golden Sliced. I have smoked that many times and really enjoy it and I'm not sure why when the others I find so disagreeable.

  • Some great cobs there Jim. The Hackert cobs are impressive! I've always said If I ever get a cob it would be a Hackert! I've yet to try Dunbar but have a tin I'll get to at some point. I've really enjoyed Peter Stokebye's Luxury Bulls Eye flake which is a vaper with the cavendish core. I have to confess I love lamb, haha. Excellent review.

    Cheers,

    James

  • @jamesejudy3 hmm thats a very interesting combination. I would like to try that. I cant really Imagine how that would taste.
