Zinsco Electrical Panel can be problematic, a good home inspector will point them out to you! Electrical portions of a Home Inspection are an important part of the inspection.

  • Hey tim

Some zinsco have bars holding in the breakers themselfs.the bars have anti tamper screws on them total nightmare along with the front cover like you shown earlier. The buss bars ,the meter jaws, breaker style, almost everything on zinsco is a death trap .what do electrcians charge in so.cal for panel changes.$1500 and up ill guess

  • Great video. Could you explain a bit more on how Zinsco's can be problematic? (Aside from the lack of stops on the cover - the 2 wire / 3 wire problem seemed to an untrained eye more a function of a bad initial electrician) One other problem, probably due to scarcity, the replacement breakers cost about 3 time the price of a standard breaker. What type of cost is someone looking out to replace the whole box and what is the best replacement?

  • I've come across quite a bit of information about Zinsco panels and the one common denominator from all the electricians I've spoken to is to replace them or not work on them because they are so unsafe.

  • Thanks for the video. I don't see many of these in my area but I did come across one yesterday. As soon as I saw the red and blue over-current devices I knew what it was. While it appeared to be in good condition I also recommend evaluation. If it were in my own home I would replace it.

  • Good job man, I've seen lots of Zinsco but never a horizonal one like that (that looks scary). Still lots of old Zinsco, Sylvania, Fed Pacific here in Austin.

  • Thanks... I got one of those.
