PGA Tour player Al Geiberger is one of few male golfers to shoot sub 60 in a PGA Tour event when he shot 59 in the 2nd round of the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1977.
He was consistently voted as having one of the very best golf swings on the PGA Tour in the 70's primarily because of his very consistent swing tempo that helped him to produce effortless distance.
In this video golf instruction lesson leading PGA golf instructor Lawrie Montague will show you why Al Geiberger has been able to play so well for so long and the reasons why he was so consistent, and what you can do to become a more consistent golfer.

  • Hi John,

I would suggest that when he was learning how to play as a kid he spent a great deal of time 'cocking and re-cocking' the golf club to get it to behave like it does naturally. The delayed wrist cock method in the backswing which is common in many golfers swings is altogether more complicated and requires better timing to work. Like the great golf instructor John Jacobs once stated; "A golf swing is two turns and a swish at the bottom" Cock and re-cock and add a little turn. Lawrie

  • Hey Coach,

    I love the analysis.

In this swing is he intentionally cocking his wrists or is it a consequence of his takeaway, and likewise is the shaft and left arm in the thru swing, intentional or a consequence again of what has gone on before.

I have said before you teaching is as good as the best, and better than the rest.

    Thanks and keep it up.

    John
