Take a listen to Mina's version of this tune--or Ringo Starr's. Personally, I like Jim Reeves' version the best. This song was written by Country singer Ted Daffan, who also wrote Born to Lose, which became a gigantic hit for Ray Charles.

I read somewhere that Joe's record was produced by Huey P. Meaux.

I do not feel there is much difference in Joe's and Fats' version of this wonderful classic. When I listen to Joe's other songs he doesn't particularly sound like Fats on those. Some songs, such as this one, almost sell themselves - they are so good. I feel that Fats' voice on this song is richer than Joe's (altho I do like Joe's music) and perhaps because I've heard Fats sing this in person I get a different take on it. I have favorites of some artists who do a same song on my list. - Paula

I had the pleasure of playing bass guitar behind Joe at many South Louisiana jiggs. Miss the old boy. Rest in Peace! Joe

Good song! Do you have a copy of "California Bound" by Joe Barry? I would so love to see that one appear here. I've been searching for it for a very long time!
