  • This is a really nice film and although I'm sure Miriam Hopkins was a good actress - she was not even in the same league as Bette. I can barely watch all her gurning expressions throughout the film, Bette on the other hand is sweet and very pretty when playing young Kit...

  • @jtraherne omg ur joking!! Ive been wanting to see this movie for years but somehow I hadnt noticed it was part of a boxset :( well at least I can finally watch it now!

    ps. nice username btw ;)

  • Miriam was a great actress and should have a far better reputation than she does. She was an excellent comic actress and a smart and funny as hell beauty in some great 30s films. Bette Davis on the other hand is highly overrated. Sorry, but after seeing most of her movies, many of which I love, I have to admit it. She never makes a natural or subtle choice when she can overblow a line.

  • Miriam Hopkins and Bette Davis always played well off each other. Bette Davis said Miriam Hopkins was a great actress.

  • thank you for letting me know, really appreciate it.

  • Movie has been out on DVD for a while now. It's part of the 2nd Bette box set.

  • This is a wonderful film and the least shown or available. I have never understood that. There must be some legal problem or controversy as I never found it in the VHS days and don't know if it is on dvd. They were both very temperamental actress' and women which makes it all the more remarkable for their talent that they did more than one film together and brilliantly. Would love to see it again beginning to end. The remake in comparison was awful.

  • By the time they did this movie Miriam Hopkins despised Bette Davis because Davis had had an affair with Hopkins' husband director Anatole Litvak. The affair was common knowledge and it is said that when it came time to shoot the shake scene everyone was waiting to see what was going to happen. They ended up filming it on a closed set with only the necessary people present. Davis was quoted as stating that Hopkins was a "real bitch" and the most unprofessional actress she ever worked with.

  • One of my favourite Bette Davis films and very underrated too!

    Love it :-)

    Xx

  • Oh - I didn't know that was what was going on. I knew that Bette couldn't stand Hopkins.

I'm sure she enjoyed that shake scene immensely !!

Great scene - I think Bette is probably the best actress of them all !
