It used to be a real treat for us because it was ALWAYS on when we used to go on holiday, and the house we rented had a COLOUR TV! With sliding doors! Besides obviously being great fun, it taught me a great deal about Europe and also not to take the stereotypical images too seriously - or indeed, competition. Great program, great days!
I felt exactly the same and also went on to prefer this version. It was introduced for the 1981 season. I was at the GB heat that year in Sunderland when Stuart Hall, before recording started, asked to the crowd if we knew the JSF music. Everyone started whistling it. So he then said 'well it's changed!' and laughed in only a way that Stuart Hall can. These titles are from the GB heat of 1982 and not 1980 as the info states. It was the last JSF to be held in Great Britain.

Does anybody know where I can get a clean version of this theme from? Or even it's name?
It doesn't half take me back!

Titles from the 1982 series, I think.

The 1981 British heat of JSF in Princess Anne Park, Washington - I was there too. Alan Hart (Controller of BBC 1) presented the winners' trophies.

I can remember as a 10 year old not liking this introduction because the titles and music changed - weirdly enough, I prefer this now!
