Easter Def Poetry at Rolling Hills

Ian Booher throws down some Def Poetry on Easter 2010 at Rolling Hills Community Church: Ian is one of our church's high school students and regularly writes his own Hip Hop. We commissioned him to write and recite a Def Poem that exposes our confusion about Easter and points us toward the hope in Easter's true foundation: The Resurrected Christ.

Poem Transcribed Below:

Misconstrued expectations of the Easter celebration.
Not knowin' we ignorin' the foundation.
Or maybe so.
Let it [be] known through the vividness I impose.
So here it goes, so hold your nose.
We divin' in and the meaning is deeper than you know:

Like the resurrection of G-O-D
But today's society deprive we
And infiltrate the meaning by hiding behind the
False concepts and fixed statements.
It's outrageous.
The frivolous engagements that us as a nation engage in.
Without the consideration of the core meaning of sacrifi-cation.
Slightly basic, I'm speaking to every generation.
The truth been apparent. It's just weather you pay attention.
Hold strong and stick to what's basic.
Don't settle for the misplaced waste the world places in places so you can't help but face it.
But about face it.
Don't long to taste it,
But long to stay loyal in a lifelong engagement.
To the Creator of the heavens and the earth
And everything that's placed in.

Hope this brings direction to your mazin'
Brightens the day.
What secure sense of clarity
Knowin' that the very thing your missin' is a bigger Being: Heavenly King.
Transition from Spirit to flesh and from flesh to Spirit.
The usual appearance.
Jesus, King of all Kings.
Interfering and bringing peace.
Bearing and tearing away
The sorrows of yesterday, today
And tomorrow we'll gain, much more to gain.
So I can't complain.
We're one in the same.
Thank God for today.
