Please watch in Fullscreen!

The NEC PC-88's high resolution modes had scanlines that appear terribly distorted when forced to a lower resolution.

  • SO wait, this is the 2nd game and Legacy of the WIzard is the 4th?

  • @Princejarethh Yup.

  • I think they just give the illusion of a higher resolution. You can disable them in an emulator and it just doubles the pixels from the line below each scanline. I'm also not familiar with the hardware much.. but I know there are at least a few games that use both the high resolution mode [with scanlines] for graphics and standard resolution mode for text at the same time.

  • @LordKarnov42 And Faxanadu is a spin-off of this game.

  • What caused the lines? a lot of PC-88 games seem to have them, but what I've seen says that output was through RGB to monitor so it seems strange that the picture isn't crystal clear (sorry, I'm a noob with this stuff).

I intially thought the lines might be an attempt at some kind of dithering
