I skip between running and aerobics.
It has really improved my breathing and stamina.
I like the machines they have at gyms but they are more novelty than anything else and a home workout costs nothing at all.

what do you think is the problem with "cardio equipment"?

I am a proponent of training with as little equipment as possible. Treadmills, bikes and stair masters are ok in my books. You are still limited in your movements, but they are acceptable for warm-up purposes. My problem with "cardio equipment" is the elliptical machine which is the biggest fitness scam out there. Not going to start ranting about ellipticals. They just suck. Thanks for the comment.
