When changing an alternator on a car, the first step is to loosen up the negative battery terminal and the belt tension. Remove the bolts and set them aside when removing an alternator with help from an auto mechanic in this free video on car repair and diagnostics.

  • This is the reason why we need to do away with the gasoline internal combustion engine. It's oily, greasy and dirty. It requires thousands of components and if one fails, its difficult and costly to repair.

  • this is helpful. i wanna change the alternator on a 2001 tacoma i just inherited. can anyone give me a tip on removing the protective "hood like" cap the covers the battery cable connection on the alternator itself. i guess i could pry it off, but i'm wondering if there's a better way to do it. hope someone can help...
