Another side-by-side room display set up at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago for the 2009 NFPA Conference & Expo. The side-by-side burn demonstrates the effects of a fire in two identical rooms, one with sprinklers and one without.

  • I have just moved into a place with these sprinklers and thought I'd check them out on the internet to see what they're all about. After just five minutes, I can't understand why these are not mandatory in every modern household. Surely if we can afford big pretend 4WDs and big flat televisions, we can afford to install these in every new house?

  • Wow, I want fire sprinklers now!

  • 1) Insurance Companies lobby Municipal/state/federal governments to stop Sprinklers from being installed. Their reasoning: home owners set sprinklers off by hanging plants birdcages from these sprinklers increasing claims on water damage. 2) home builders lobby, they don't want added cost by regulated building codes. 3) mom and dad don't have lobby groups so children burn.

  • Wasserschäden können manchmal schlimmer sein. Ich hätte immer Bedenken, dass ein Fehlalarm (Ampulle platzt warum auch immer) das System auslösen würde.

  • Perry County just lost 7 children in a house fire MIKEN8ERISBACK please tell me again about the safe evacuation of the home in the event of a fire. No disrespect, but I recently retired from my local Fire Bureau and I am a sprinkler advocate. Also your car is expensive to maintain, but if you don't you put your life at risk.

  • @alexgfm2 Because they are not totally necessary for the safe evacuation of the home in the event of a fire, unlike smoke detectors. They can also be expensive to maintain.

  • Can you believe that Pennsylvania wants to kill the code requirement to install sprinklers in residential dwellings? Makes you think, Why would you do that?

  • @gspencerful Think he might of been joking.

  • that will put firefighter out of job!

  • @termitemfp
