This movie clip explores two major Christian approaches to understanding why there is evil and suffering in the world, using an analogy with a can of fizzy drink. In the first example, the contents of a fizzy drink can are seen to 'explode', because it has been shaken beforehand. This is compared to the Freewill Defence, which says that bad things happen in the world because we choose to do them. The second example suggests that bad things happen in order that we might learn not to do certain things again. For example, if we do not want the contents of our drink's can to go everywhere, then we must not shake the can before opening it. This is compared to the Irenaean Theodicy, which says that evil and suffering is allowed to occur in the world so that we might learn not to do certain things, and also so that we will become better people. • in response to your comment righteous0ne, i know you left this a year a go but the answer would be that "terrible diseases" and "cancer" would be natural evil. so the next question you would probably ask is then why does god make natural evil. the answer is; to give others the opportunity to act in a virtuous manner and to move closer towards god/to perfection. This isnt perfect but its a little more explanation of the anology. Even though you are probably not even listening :p

  • You state that "bad things happen because we choose to do them".

So all people who got cancer or any other terrible decease got that because they choose for them?

Please explain how you see that, or even how that is possible.
