Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) 2009 Tampa Florida - Cirrus - First Production Aircraft with a Parachute built-in. Priced from $260k to $500k+ at Peter O'Knight Airport
I actually wrote to Cirrius in 1976 of an idea of an aircraft fitted inside its roof of a parachute that can deployed to safely lower the aircraft down to the ground in-case of an engine failure. They sent me a reply that it was not practical for a winged aircraft to be fitted with such a kind of parachute system.
I know three people that owe their lives to this system.. If you are flying over extreme terrain such as the Rocky mountains, there is nowhere to land.. the pilot had no other choice but to deploy, waiting for rescue to come in was more harrowing than the actual landing. They got a bit bruised, and it got cold and rainy, otherwise it all turned out well. Cirrus has a site that tells of all the uses and lives saved by this system. Well done!
Only thing bad about the cirrus is the spin recovery checklist says to use the 'chute and with the 'chute your desent rate is 1200 FPM, other than that I love cirrus
I saw those cirruses in a local air show (FIDAE) what a marvel. GPS, Flight Director, 3d landscape screen... the best on GPS, a PARACHUTE.... the safest plane ive ever seen...
try double that price and then some lady lol

How can a normal category aircraft be certified without spin certification?
pathyskeeter 4 months ago
You mean that they cannot be controlled if you accidentally stall?
pathyskeeter 6 months ago
@pathyskeeter They are not certified for flight without the parachute, because they are unable to recover from a spin.

Is it possible to get a Cirrus without a parachute to get more useful load?
