If you can, please watch this in 720p HD resolution!

I bought my Flip Ultra HD (8GB 3rd Generation) camcorder last night, and spent a few hours this morning testing it out in the Waikiki area near my apartment.

See the daytime test here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4w0tql3yK4&feature=feedu

For my night time test, I filmed the front entrance driveway of the J.W. Marriott Ihilani hotel around 7:15pm Hawaii Standard Time. Image is very dark because of the low lighting.

The next scene is of a pond area with live sharks in it. The only lighting there are tiki torches and the faint glow of light from a nearby restaurant. Absolutely dark footage.

The rest are driving from Kapolei to Waikiki from my car after work. I held the Flip in my right hand, and tried to let my arm act as a shock absorber. The lit areas of the road show up in nice detail, but anything in the dark is completely black in the footage. You can barely make out the lights of buildings in the far distance.

Overall impression: So the Flip doesn't perform well in low light situations, but its daytime and indoor lighting footage more than make up for that fact. The microphone on the small Flip records a lot of sounds in high quality audio... I was pretty surprised at how nice everything sounds through my headphones. I would still recommend this to other people.

  • @imaDINOrawr00 yeah the Ultra HD is good for daylight and situations at night with plenty of lights around... but for dark situations, the dark areas are all black and hard to see any details. hopefully future generations of the Flip resolve this problem.

  • eh at night it looks pretty bad. I was thinking of getting the ultra

  • @RGVCavalry

just the standard FlipShare software that comes with the camera once you plug it into the USB port on your computer.

its simple and does the auto-fade between scenes and then you can save it and upload directly to your YouTube account

  • i also got mine today and what software did u edit it with?
