It was the Aussies who hard to do the hard yakka in the jungle covered mountains, whilst the Yanks were mostly on the shoreline low areas. However, their Airforce provided us with plenty of activity from the air, which was very much needed.

But, they did not win the war in New Guinea, as their documentaries generally suggest.

What a piece of crap, the australians were the main force that beat the japs in new guinea. Macarther was a mongrel and did not have an appreciation of what the ground was like.Blamey was a bootlicker and was hated by his troops.
