It was rare for wrestlers to get color on TV back in the 80s; if you wanted blood, you had to go to the house shows. Chances are that the "pre-existing wound" 2010thefan mentioned was from a non-televised blade job the night before (perhaps anticipating the Battle Royal, however)...
I really miss watching Andre the Giant live in that ring. He was just amazing in every aspect in wrestling. When he wrestled in Japan he was very versatile and technical for his size as much as his size and weight allowed him to be. I remembered seeing him actually a similar kick to the opponents head like Antonio Inoki used to do once. (I cannot recall the name of that move, but he jumped and kicked the opponent in the back of the head) He was by far the 8th wonder of the world w/o a doubt.
I don't think Lanny would have had time to blade. Besides, this was the Hogan-era WWE. Vince wanted the shows to be G-rated and therefore didn't allow the guys to blade on TV.
@2010thefan Ahhh ok, because I watched this a few times specifically looking for the blade move but there is none. Interesting. Thanks for posting that

Note how deteriorating was Andre 's health already at this point. The big guy barely walks across the ring

I sent Lanny an email asking about the blood and he said he didn't blade because it was a pre existing wound from a previous night's match.
