Update: The Furminator is a great product but I recently learned about the Laube desheding quick change blade.

I have told everyone for years to get a Furminator but lets face it. The price is not easy to swallow ( Equine Furminator $50) and over the years it's not come down much. It's well worth the price IF you can bring yourself to spend that much on ONE de-shedding tool that is like no other.

Well, the Furminator is no longer the only de-shedding blade on the market that works really well. The Laube has the same kind of blade that the Furminator uses (I'm told it's a #40 clipping blade) but at a much more affordable cost. You can buy a "kit" that comes with 1 handle and 3 different size blades (2",3" and 4" wide) plus 2.5" Flea Comb, 3" Skip Tooth Comb and a 4" Finishing Comb that can all be quick changed with the handle for the same price as buying 1 Equine Furminator! The only difference that I know of is that the Furminator has a 5" blade vs the Laube's 4". But your getting 6 tools for the price of one when you buy a Laube!

I love my Furminator but as soon as the blade wears out or gets damaged I'm getting a Laube.Sorry Furminator I will miss you.

Original Post:
This is a friends horse that is being brushed with the Furminator for the first time. He is sweaty from just standing in his pen with his winter coat on. She was brushing him slow and pulling the hair out of the comb so I could get it on video.

The curry didn't take any hair off him because he was sweaty and his hair was all clumped together. The Furminator didn't have a problem getting in to the coat and grabing the lose hair from underneath, bringing it to the surface.

  • I just had to purchase another one. I loaned mine out to my Dad and he was so amazed with it he showed all his friends and I have no idea where it's at! lol

Advice: Don't loan your Furminator out! They will like it so much you won't see it again! hahaha

Ebay has the Horse size (5" wide) for around $32 plus shipping. So, it's around $40 bucks or so.

Much better price then the normal $79!!

    It's worth every Penny!!

  • Great video! Looks like I will be buying one for my horse!

  • Thanks. I told her about how it worked really well on my horse so I took it over to her to use on hers. She reallyed liked it and it worked when the other brushes wouldent because HB was all sweaty. It's great and if you brush faster it just leaves piles of hair on the ground. I love it :)

  • horsey like.

  • You sure that horse isnt well, that is swetting ALOT

  • Ew D:

  • just a tip: they work better if you use quick short strokes instead of long strokes. You will end up wit another horse on the ground. =)

  • lols damn they shud make one like 3 ft wide haha

  • @9yrhunterjumper the tool she is using

  • I like how they start telling the horse "easy" when it shifts over just a little bit. They act like he's gonna freak out or something, the horse was just being a a horse.

  • oooooo, i want one!!!!! My horse's winter fur WILL NOT come off w/ the curry comb, and we've had 50 degree and up weather! Some days it's been 70, so I would think she probably gets pretty hot with her super fluffy winter coat! :p

  • I got a cat size Furbuster at Walmart last week for $14 to try on my Icelandic horses. It worked great at removing undercoat. I think very much same type product as Furminator. Only difference between cat vs dog versions is the width, but teeth are same size. I expect a horse version would be similar with wider, but same product otherwise.

    Thanks for posting your video.

  • HA!!! i was wondering if they made a furminator for horses. nice and wide, i know what i'm getting a bunch of folks for x-mas!!! thanks for posting.
