This video shows me explaining how my kicks are tuned and set up and then playing them, which was recorded with studio recording equipment.

I would like to note that the resonant heads on my kicks are not self muffling, the self-muffling rings have been cut out because they were only detrimental to the sound and had to be replaced by the t-shirts which achieve the desired results without hurting volume and response.

The port hole is essential to this particular kick drum sound. I used a razor knife and traced a round object on some cereal box cardboard. But this guy(NeroStrike) has a better and safer method:

For anyone interested in my video about heel up technique:

The same demo clip is used in my video "How to record drums using four condenser mics" I would have recorded a unique clip for each video, but I was getting a lot of requests for this video and wanted to get this up in a hurry. And I can be busy with all this stuff that I'm doing..... with things.......

  • Where are your bass drum mics placed?

  • @Iamnotafurry They are condenser mics and they're a yard away from the front of the kick. You can't use that setup while other instruments are going though, it will pick everything else up.

  • do your heads ever crack from being so loose?

  • @Ree1Fisherman No. Those are both the first powerstroke 3 heads that I put on when I started using powerstroke 3's. They have been on there for years.

  • What would happen if you put a kickport in the resonant head? :P

They sound incredible xD are you sure that's just through the camera? :O

  • @MusicKid1471 The resonant is the one with the port. For this video I used mics, so the sound isn't from the camera. When I'm talking though it's from the camera mic.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner You're right. I don't use Evan's because I don't play around. I use Remo because I tear it up. But in all seriousness brand loyalty is the ultimate submission of your mind to marketing. I use my own perception to find what sounds the best and then use that.

  • This guy loves 16th notes!
