The Bro Bowl: 30 Years of Tampa Concrete tells the story of one of the first free public skate parks built in the late 1970s. Located near housing projects in downtown Tampa, the bro bowl became the centerpiece of an unintended culture clash between suburban kids and locals from nearby neighborhoods. Over time the skateboarding scene at the bro bowl became a proto-typical example of what organizations like The Tony Hawk Foundation are striving to achieve: The positive impact of free skate parks in low-income areas.

With the bowls demolition a looming possibility the skateboard community raised its voice in order to preserve the legendary skate park landmark.

Will the Bro Bowl survive?

Interviews with legendary skateboarding icons Paul Schmitt, Bruce Walker, Christian Hosoi, and Buck Smith are combined with the experiences of local & contemporary skateboarders to tell the story.

Driven by a soundtrack of local artists and bands from the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, The Bro Bowl: 30 Years of Tampa Concrete culminates into an overall expression of the scene, character, and creativity surrounding skateboarding.

  • Holy shit, I used to ride that back in like '88-'91 but only in the middle of the night, too much bullshit crackheads during the day! I would love to see this sometime!!

  • I remember several brawls in 87-88 when the neighborhood kids would just come out of everywhere with rocks and bottles, I got my jaw slammed with a jar, it was really out of control for a while.

  • Saw this comment from someone on Facebook about this doc, HAD to check it out! Back in High school I was in this environmental club & we did a Clean the Bro Bowl Project. So Much Fun, Our skate rat crew used to go there ALL the time from 96'-98'. I'll Never forget ALWAYS hearing "Let me ride yo skateboard" from the neighborhood Kids! Pa-Ha! DAMN those were good times. I. Need. To. Find this doc. HUGE Props to the Maker!
