Quentin Wilson gives a review of the first generation Austin Metro (1980 to 1990 models), pointing out it's short comings, such as the rust issues and the somewhat unreliable Hydragas suspension and the A-Series engine. As a result, these cars are now as rare as hen's teeth.

  • @mrspivvy There was loads of great cars available in the 80's, and quite a few alternatives to the metro too.

  • @chefblanc Rust is a pretty major fault to be honest.

  • @AlannTH lol I remember all those cars. We was in school then and any kid who's parents owned a lada, citreon dolly or a metro got the piss ripped out of him

  • @lukerobin01 I haven't seen one for 10 years. I'm guessing they all just rusted to ablivion!

  • the only thing that the metro took on was bl. BL bankrupt longbridge.

  • The only ones that are left are metro's that are oap owners who rarely take them out or show cars

  • All the money they spent on developing this bowl of wallpaper paste, BL could have spent much more effectively on improving the mini, giving it a hatchback, a bigger engine, new hydrolastic suspension, better interiors! But no, we had to roll out this box of tin tacs! The Mini outlived the car that was supposed to replace it, so history had the last laugh!

  • I drove a new B reg going back a bit it wasn,t too bad

  • My Mam had an M-reg one for years and only stopped when someone crashed into it

  • Wow, the rust on some of those Metro's are awful. My 16 year old Peugeot 205 has none and some of those were less than 6. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I seen a Metro on the road. Even the never Rover Metro's are pretty rare now.
