Kamikaze in Japanese the word means Divine Wind. The top Japanese military commanders had faced the fact that Japan was losing the war. They knew that they called the Japanese tradition of self sacrifice. So they authorized suicide by their finest young men as a weapon.

Kamikaze was a waste. They should have trained more pilots before the war, then made that third wave attack on pearl harbor to destroy US fuel and resources first.

Japanese Kamikazes did not sink very many ships & most sunk were Destroyers, transports, Auxilliary ships, & a cdouple/few smaller light & escort carriers. NOT ONE LARGE CAPITAL SHIP WAS SUNK BY KAMIKAZES ALTHOUGH SOME SUFFERED LIGHT TO HEAVY DAMAGE.
