one question: how do you know when to stop incrementing to by 32?, on the host portion?
protocl 1 year ago
@protocl when doing simple classful subnetting, you increment until you reach the last address, 255. with variable length subnetting this would work differently.

@macsucks45 so, host: 96 to 128 to 160 etc. stops at 255?, correct?
protocl 1 year ago
@protocl correct. this same procedure works for class a and class b address spaces as well. if you had a class b, you would increment until you reached x.x.255.255. remember, although you are incrementing until the end, not all of the addresses are usable for hosts, you have to be aware of your network addresses and your broadcast addresses.
