NMA Bigfoot Harescramble 1991 Part 2

.....As the Bigfoot Harescramble winded down, the top 6 or 7 riders settled out in their positions. Scott Drafs took a well deserved overall victory. At the time, Scott was one of the fastest off-road riders in the northwest.

Kevin Bethards put in a great ride to finish 2nd overall on his KX125. Kevin was one of the faster harescramblers in the northwest through most of 1980s. This is one of the last races I remember him competing in.

Third place went to the crazy Canadian, Randy Van Bemelen. This was the first race I ever saw Randy in. So, at the beginning, I remember being surprised at how fast this new guy was riding. He actually put some pressure on the leader, Scott Drafs, before eventually falling to third overall. Nevertheless, he had a great ride.

Putting in a great ride for 4th Place overall went to Chuck Bolton. Looking at one of the clips in the pits, I noticed one of the original and notorious "Team Crutch" pit boards. In 1991, team crutch must have been in it's infancy, and Chuck was one of the early members.

5th Overall went to me, Scott McLaughlin. I had a tough ride. I had to stop in the pits to fix his clutch and then gas spilled into my goggles upon refueling. But, I soldiered on to a hard earned and relatively crash free finish. At this point in time it was a real feather in my cap to have a rider where I didn't crash a gazillion times.

Probably my favorite part of the whole video is looking at all of the people in the trophy ceremony. A couple of my friends, Joe Lindbloom and Bill Bailey won their classes, respectively. A young Kevin Bailey takes the victory in the Open C class....eventually Kevin would progress to win the NMA championship several times. Then, I loved my iridium shaded Oakley blades look-a-like Smith iridium shaded sunglasses. That combined with my sheepdog mullet was surefire hit with the ladies.
